2nd grade has progressed to the middle of our Amplify Knowledge unit on the Cycles of Nature. We have discussed different seeds and how they have different needs of being able to be dispersed and grow. They got to observe different parts and stages of an avocado seed including the softening of the outer shell with water to prepare the seed for germination, as well as observing a pinecone as the flower of the pine tree containing seeds inside. Students were also able to observe with a microscope and magnifying glass different structures of a chickens egg that aids in the life cycle of a chicken from the air sac inside to observing the tiny pores all over the eggshell that allows oxygen to enter for the embryo and carbon dioxide to exit from the inside of the egg.
